Copyright Guidelines for Teaching

Getting Started

When you design courses and teach your students, you will copy and share many copyright-protected works with them, and you may also create derivative works such as slide presentations and lecture notes. It is important that faculty, staff, and students of Sul Ross State University respect and follow U.S. Copyright Law. This guide will help you understand the basics of copyright issues that you might encounter in teaching, and point you to further resources about the use of copyright-protected works.

This guide is not a substitute for legal advice. If you have a specific question related to copyright that is not covered in this guide, please contact the U.S. Copyright Office.
