eBooks at SRSU Library

How to find eBooks at SRSU Library

Keep in mind that eBooks have different service providers, which means that access and use varies slightly between platforms -- even when accessing eBooks through the SRSU Library. Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm." To access the greatness of eBooks, you will need some enthusiasm.

First, consider what you're after:

  • Do you want to see if there are eBooks available related to a keyword or for a certain subject?
  • Are you looking to see if a specific text is available as an eBook?
  • Do you want to browse eBooks?

Search by keyword or subject in All Library Search

Use All Library Search, the Library's Discovery Service, to search for eBooks by keyword or by subject. Here's how:

  1. Navigate to library.sulross.edu
  2. Enter search term(s) into the box and click Search
  3. The results page will load. Look at the left hand side of the screen at the menu titled Refine Results. The grey box at the top of this menu will show your Current Search terms and limiters.
  4. Scroll to Filter by Format and click Show More.
  5. Click Name to alphabetize the format types, and scroll to eBooks
  6. Check the eBooks box and click Update. Your original search's results will update to include only eBooks from different eBook platforms.
  7. Access and/or download eBooks by following the directions on the screen. More details about specific platforms are available in this guide. Note that you will likely be asked to log in or create an account to access eBooks from different platforms.

Find access options for a specific text

Similar to using All Library Search, the Library's Discovery Service, to limit search results to show eBooks, you can search for a specific text and limit the search by format (Filter by Format) in order to see if that text is available as an eBook.

Note that not all texts are available as eBooks (just as not all eBooks are available as physical books).

Browse eBook Collections

Much like browsing the stacks of a library, eBook collections tend to offer browse features. For example, in EBSCOhost eBooks, you can browse by Category or Featured Books, which change by the month.
